The Dodge Monaco was a full size automobile which was built and sold by Dodge division of Chrysler Corporation during the period of 1965-1978 and 1990-1992. Dodge Monaco was initially designed to compete with Pontiac's Grand Prix model in what came to be called as personal luxury market. Then in 1965, Monaco was introduced as a hardtop coupe which was based on the Dodge Polara two door hardtop coupes. Monaco was appreciated and it received a special badging, unique tail light and framework treatment and a center console. Monaco became every popular as the police cars which were introduced in 1974 which was chiefly a police model and it was a big hit through a comedy movie.
The 1974 model was a complete redesign with all-new sheet metal and all-new unibody platform.
