1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 fastback
The world favorite, Ford's Mustang GT500 was redesigned in the year 1967. This was done since it faced a cut throat competition with its rivals such as Pontiac's Firebird, Mercury's Cougar, and Plymouth's Barracuda and Chevrolet which was planning to launch its all new Chevy Camaro muscle car. So these factors were responsible for the birth of a more muscular and powerful Ford Mustang.
This car was dimensionally larger. There were some similarities to the former in terms of the wheelbase however there were some change to the other features such as in the front-suspension track, body size and others. In fact, this car had the ability to attain a speed of around 0-60 mph in 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 115 mph.
Some of the basic features of the car were that it was two inches longer as compared to the former model and also featured a 2.5-inch Increase in Front Track. Besides, the side scoops were also painted to match the color of the car. In addition to all this there was a concave rear which had even larger tail lights. It was also equipped with 390-cubic-inch 6.4L V-8 Engine.
Other notable changes to the 1967 Ford Mustang included side scoops that were painted to match the color of the car. In the past, the Mustang's side scoops were chrome plated in design. The new scoops more closely resembled real intakes than in previous model years.
There was also a lot of change as far as the rear of the 1967 Ford Mustang was concerned. The difference could be seen in terms of the rear tail lights which were larger and concave in design. If you cast a look at the older models, you will find that those consisted of a rear that was convex and basic. There were some other features added to the 1967 Mustang such as a GT package which consisted of driving lamps, side stripes, and a dual exhaust. Other than this there were also two glass panes which were used to make the rear window. The plastic convertible windows were no longer used.
There were no more the three gills which were present in the 1965 and 1966 models next to the headlights. There was also difference in terms of the grille which consisted on of vertical and horizontal bars. Another thing that was new was that the opening to the grille was larger than in the past. All these features gave it even a more masculine look.
The Ford Mustang of 1967 was the last to have a 289 Hi-Po Engine. These were some of the features that distinguished a 1967 Mustang from a 1968. However both these models have striking resemblance.
The 1967 Ford Mustang was a better version as compared to the previous models. It was different in terms of its better suspension system and also its appearance. Indeed it was better as compared to its older versions and the additional functionalities made it quite popular.
