In the year 1966, this sports car was released in front of the public. The classic design of Alfa Spider Duetto was ready by undergoing a production period for 2 years. During its production, few hundred examples were made but the final layout was marvelous. The Spider Duetto truly represents the beginning of the Spider design. It was least expected to have something like this and everyone was amazed after seeing the car. Excellent interiors, good seats and running like a roadster make it a perfect sports car any guy would love to buy. The story behind naming of the Spider Deutto is quite interesting. Actually, the name "Duetto" was chosen after Alfa Romeo held a contest in which every person was allowed to suggest a name for the roadster. In return, person with the best name got a brand new Spider 1600.

While some car purists refuse to use the name "Deutto" and rather call it an Alfa Romeo Spider 1600. The Alfa Romen Spider Duetto was the last design created by Italian coachbuilder Battista Pinin Farina. The ecstatic interiors of the car speak a lot of Italian design used in the manufacturing of this roadster. Truly, the Duetto is a design marvel with a power-plant of 1570 cc. When the Spider Duetto was originally in Italy, its price was 2,195,000 lire. It would not be wrong to say that Duetto has achieved success that has spanned across the ocean. In fact, its overall appearance was even embraced in the American movie 'Graduate' starring Dustin Hoffman. Since then, the roadster came into limelight and became the most wanted car of the era.

No wonder, the Spider Duetto was an elegant vehicle that continued in production all the way upto 1994 with very few technical changes. The Duetto was the best vehicle for buyers who wanted to get noticed. It was a masterpiece which amazed everyone when it was released. Today, the Duetto is a highly sought-after collectible but unfortunately it was later replaced by the 1750 Spider Veloce because its engine was more powerful with 1779 cc and 118 horsepower. Even though not many improvements were seen with respect to the looks but considerable work was done on the brakes, electrics, wheels and tires. In the history of Alfa Romeo, the production of the Spider Duetto is undeniably stamped, despite of the fact that the Duetto was produced only for 12 months. In the traditional sense, this car has genuinely achieved the status of a true sports car.
